About the Company

The company is a well-established, medium-sized manufacturing business based in Coventry.  The customer supplies its products to a well diverisified customer base , across multiple industries. We are looking for a proactive and experienced Transport Manager to oversee and optimise the organisations transport operations, ensuring seamless delivery of goods while maintaining compliance with regulations and cost-effectiveness.

Job Summary

As the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the transport function, managing a fleet of vehicles, ensuring compliance with transport legislation, and optimising logistics to improve efficiency and reduce costs. You will work closely with internal departments, suppliers, and customers to ensure smooth operations and excellent service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective transport strategies while maintaining high service levels.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transport legislation, including operator licensing and driver regulations.
  • Monitor vehicle tracking systems to optimise routes and improve delivery performance.
  • Work closely with warehouse and production teams to ensure timely dispatch and delivery of goods.
  • Manage transport budgets and seek opportunities to reduce costs without compromising service.
  • Oversee driver performance, training, and compliance with working time and tachograph regulations.
  • Liaise with external transport providers and negotiate contracts where necessary.
  • Handle transport-related incidents, accidents, and insurance claims effectively.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends and regulatory changes, ensuring best practices are followed.

Skills & Experience Required:


  • Proven experience in a Transport Manager role, ideally within a manufacturing or logistics environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing a fleet of vehicles, including maintenance and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and people management experience, including driver supervision and performance management.
  • Ability to analyse transport data and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Proficiency in transport management software and vehicle tracking systems.
  • CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) in Transport Management is highly desirable.
  • A results-driven mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
