Job Title: Workshop Technician Applied Science, Temporary one year with possibility of extension/permanency Responsible to:Academic Manager Programme Curriculum & Support Reporting to: Academic Manager - Programme Curriculum & Support, Head of Department, Deputy Head of Department and Curriculum Managers. Job Purpose: To carry out a range of maintenance and Workshop support duties and to support the learning activities within the workshops for the Applied Science department in South West College. Location: The post holder will be based at the Dungannon Campus however, will be required to be available for work at any of the College sites if required. Main Duties and Responsibilities To prepare workspace materials for use by lecturers and trainees. To organise, equipment tools and materials for trainees and lecturers in line with the requirements for each teaching and learning session. To maintain all equipment in a safe and secure environment. To practice good stock control including ordering, receipt, storage and issuing of all tools and materials. To check requisitions against documentation when received and comply with Agresso requirements. To assist and support lecturers during practical classes. To carry out regular routine checks on equipment to ensure any problems are noted and reported to the designated person so appropriate action is taken. Ensure accurate records for equipment checks and maintenance are available at all times, using the correct proformas. To carry out minor repairs to equipment as and when required and when properly trained to do so. To be proactive in Health & Safety issues relating to the section and across the wider College. Assist staff in the development and maintenance of safe working practices and procedures. Adopt a Safety first approach to your own work and report any potential risks or hazards immediately. To assist with the distribution of Personal Protective Clothing as and when required and take responsibility for the maintenance of accurate stock records. To co-ordinate lockers, including distribution and return of keys to tutors and students. To participate in staff and personal development as and when required. Ensure all mandatory CPD is kept up to date and within the timelines identified by your line Manager or the Health and Safety Manager. To undertake or support the supervision of students within the teaching areas as necessary To drive College vehicles between campuses if required. To undertake any other reasonable duties designated by Head of School or their Deputy Curriculum Manager, Campus Manager or Health and Safety Manager or direct Line Manager.? NB: Outside of term time the post holder may be asked to perform general maintenance duties or support any wider college functions as required, and take part in any staff rotas to provide adequate cover at key times of the academic year or when a need has arisen, directed by the Line Manager, Head of Department or Chief Executive. Person Specification Essential Criteria Method of Assessment Qualifications/ Experience Level 3 qualification(e.g. A-level, BTEC or Diploma) or above GCSE Maths and English Language (A C) or equivalent; Application Form Knowledge/Skills andAbilities Excellent ICT skills (which include use of the Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Outlook and use of Management Information systems) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Good organisational skills with the proven ability to prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines Flexibility to work an average of one evening per week if required First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake if appointed to the role; A relevant Health and Safety qualification or willingness to undertake if appointed to the role; A relevant Science qualification or willingness to undertake suitable job specific training determined by your line manager Access to a car and able to travel between campuses and other business use as required or ability to demonstrate mobility. Hours of work: 30 hours per week Location:Dungannon Campus, However the postholder(s) will be required to work at other South West College campuses as required. Terms & Conditions All terms and conditions of employment for this post are as laid down by the Association of NI Colleges nonteaching negotiations committees and are drawn from the conditions of service for NJC for local authorities staff.
