A Helpful Foundation is a charitable initiative launched by Apply4U and is aimed at supporting individuals in need and making a positive difference in their lives. The foundation has undertaken a couple projects to achieve its mission and make a remarkable impact one of them being the Ration Bag Project. It’s aim is to provide essential items to vulnerable families in Pakistan, helping them get through tough times. 

How we started

We kicked off our first ever Ration bag Project as our team in Pakistan were able to witness the growing need for support in the community. We knew that our help and support would go straight to the families in need, so we took it as a clear sign to start this project. 

Since then, we’ve been handing out Ration Bags every Ramadan to poor families but also monthly to families in desperate need. Haafiz Saab personally delivered and continues to deliver the bags to vulnerable families, making sure they receive the support they need. Every month, Haafiz Saab goes around the neighbourhood and even to remote villages in his rickshaw reaching families who need the bags and any other support. His rickshaw has become a symbol of hope and people rush to him even when he isn’t handing out bags.

What’s in the bags

The ration bags created by A Helpful Foundation contain a variety of essential items that can help families get through tough times. 

The items in the Ramadan Ration Bags include:

- Salt

- Ghee

- Flour

- Rice

- Sugar

- Turmeric and chilli powder

- Coriander seeds

- Gram flour

- Dates 

- Qarshi Jam e Shirin Herbal Beverage.

The items in the Monthly Ration Bags include:

- Bread flour

- Ghee

- Sugar

- Daal (Chana Mong)  

- Rice

- Gram flour

- Detergent powder

- Soap bar

- Tea

- Dishwasher soap

These bags provide families with the basics they need to survive, ensuring that they can focus on getting back on their feet.

The impact

Since its inception, the Ration Bag Project has had a significant impact on the community. Last year, over 100 families were helped, and the foundation raised over £3000 through PayPal donations. This year, they've already helped over 100 families and aim to reach out to even more.

In addition to providing support during Ramadan, A Helpful Foundation distributes ration bags monthly throughout the whole year to families in desperate need. By providing families with the basics, they need to survive, they're making a real difference in the community.
